Event 1: Day 1B Bagged & Tagged

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Completed Level 16: Blinds 2k/4k/400 ante

With ten minutes remaining in the level, the clock was stopped and all tables were instructed to play four more hands.

Once those hands were complete, they colored up the black 100 chips, then bagged up for the night.

Alfredo Sosa

Alfredo Sosa is the chip leader with 355k.  He won a $2,700 entry into the Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship event (event #13).

 Taurean Davis

A very "close but no cigar" goes to Taurean Davis, who bagged 347k, missing the lead by just 8k in chips.

Somewhere in the neighborhood of 135 players survived the day's action.  They can chose to take Thursday off and return Friday for Day 2 at 12 noon.

-OR-

If they want to try to improve their stacks, they can play again in flights 1C and/or 1D on Thursday and take their 'best' Day 1 stack into Day 2.

Event 1: Mitchell Martin Leads

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 16: Blinds 2k/4k/400 ante

This is the last level of the night.

Mitchell Martin

Mitchell Martin has vaulted into the lead (at least among those in the Signature Room) with about 283k.

Event 1: Playing in Style

 $500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 15: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

Who says poker players are all slobs wearing jeans and hoodies or T-shirts, cargo shorts and flip-flops?  Occasionally we run across a player who is dressed a little better.  Coincidentally, today two players arrived dressed to the nines.

Scott DiClaudio & Avdo Djokovic

Scott DiClaudio is a lawyer, so frequently appears before or after court still wearing his 'work clothes'.  (Notice the french cuffs with cuff links!)

Avdo Djokovic is a frequent flier here at Borgata tournaments and usually appears dressed a little more casually, but is in fine form today wearing suit and tie.

Event 1: On The Lam

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 15: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

Simon Lam

Made a pass through the Poker Room during the previous level and nine tables remain in action over there.  Among those tables, it appears that Simon Lam is the chip leader with about 190k.

Twelve tables are still playing in the Signature Room, leaving fewer than 210 players in action for Day 1B.

Event 1: Tweet Outs

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 14: Blinds 1k/2k/300

Chris Reslock busted out earlier and let us know he's not going to try again tomorrow.  His next event will be the Omaha High/Low tournament on Saturday afternoon (event 4).

A couple of players have busted out and Tweeted their demise:

Event 1: Back From Break

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 13: Blinds 1k/2k/300

Players are back in their seats for the last four levels of the night.  They'll play straight through levels 13, 14, 15, & 16 (2 hours), then bag up for the night.

Here are some Tweets from the last break:

Event 1: Another Signature Big Stack

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 800/1,600/200

 Hani Kalil

Hani Kalil is up to 194k and may have claimed the chip lead here in the Signature Room.  The player with the most chips at the end of Day 1B will win a $2,700 seat in the Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship.

Fifteen tables remain in action here in this room, with an unknown number still playing over in the Poker Room.

End of level 12 and players are taking their last break of the day.

Event 1: Signature Big Stack

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 800/1,600/200

Matt Beier

Matt Beier (Port Chester, NY) has chipped up to ~175k and may be the chip leader here in the Signature Room.

Event 1: Crane Whiffs and Crashes

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 11: Blinds 600/1,200/200

 Jeff Einfalt

Before the blinds went up:

On a flop of J 4♣ 3, Russell Crane (early position) shoved.  Jeff Einfalt (cutoff) gave it some thought, then called.

Russell: AT (flush draw)
Jeff: AJ off (top/top)

The last two fell 2 K♠ and brought no help for Russell.  The 2011 Borgata Spring Poker Open Champion busted out.  Too late to re-enter today, but he'll probably be back tomorrow for Day 1C.

Event 1: Numbers & Tweets

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: 500/1,000/100 ante

The unofficial Day 1B total is 633 entries, putting the two-day total at 1,112 entries (479 Day 1A).

We're more than halfway to the $1,000,000 Guaranteed total buy-in with two more flights Thursday (11 am & 5 pm).

Tweets from the field:

Event 1: Back From Break

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: Blinds 500/1,000/100

Players are back in action after the color-up break.

Samuel Tucker

During the previous level, Samuel Tucker sent a player packing with a lucky river.  All the chips went in on the turn with a board of K 2 2♠ 7 .  The middle position player was all-in and Samuel gave it some thought, then opted to call.

MP:  42 off (trip ducks)
Samuel: K♠T (Kings-up, flush draw)

River:  J

Samuel rivered the flush to take the pot, sending his opponent to the rail.  Samuel chipped up to about 85k.

Event 1: Early Chip Leader

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Break; Next Blinds: 500/1,000/100 ante

Papola & Lam

With registration closing after this break, it's time to focus on the big stacks.  Very few stacks are more than 100k, but Johnny Lam (New York, NY) is one of them.

Lam has the chip lead with 135k and has a new neighbor as three-time Borgata trophy winner Jeff Papola (Monmouth Beach, NJ) recently arrived.

Papola has a starting stack of 25k and has Lam to his left.

The floor managers are coloring-up the green (25) chips before play resumes.

Event 1: Luck Of The Draw

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 9: 400/800/75

Will Failla & Vinny Pahuja

Will 'the Thrill' Failla's table broke and he landed in an empty seat next to another Borgata regular, Vinny Pahuja.  Neither player looked too happy about this development.

Event 1: Last Level to Enter

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 9: 400/800/75

There's just 45 minutes remaining to enter Day 1B (30 min level + 15 min break) as the clock is now ticking.  But those who miss the deadline (~4:15 pm) have lots of time Thursday to enter the $1,000,000 Guaranteed event as there are two flights (11 am & 5 pm).

Event 1: A.J. Soprano Busted by AK

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 8: 300/600/75 ante

(l-r) Leban, Gagliardi & Iler

Actor Robert Iler (New York, NY), who is best known for portraying A.J. Soprano on HBO's The Sporanos, gets whacked while holding pocket 10s.

Iler, who is a frequent Borgata player, ends up all in for 18k after a plethora of preflop action. His pocket pair doesn't hold against the AK of Joana Leban (New York, NY) who turns an Ace and hits a King on the river.

"I had no idea," says Frank Gagliardi (Vineland, NJ) who was next to Iler.  "He was a nice guy and told me 'nice hand,' a couple of times."

Iler did a good job of concealing his identity and Leban says Iler replied, "I get that a lot," when one player said he resembled the tv character.  "I knew it was him," says Leban, "but I wasn't going to say anything."

After the hand, Iler make a quick exit, but didn't request a re-entry ticket.  Leban is one of the bigger stacks in the Signature Room and is up to 95k.

Event 1: Sachse Sacks Marder

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 7: 250/500/50 ante

Sachse & Marder at a Happier Time

Kim Sachse & Michael Marder are in a 60k chip pot with Sachse hitting a full house against Marder's turned flush.

"I replayed the hand in my head and didn't think he had a flush," says Sachse who calls 10k on the turn. "I thought he had a lesser two pair."

Sachse check-calls the river when Marder moves all in and Sachse gets the knockout.  Marder describes the action on Twitter:

Event 1: Tweets Reveal Missing Turtle

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 6: 200/400/50 ante

Event 1: 500 & Counting (1B), 1K Total

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 5: 150/300/25 ante

Poker Room

More than 500 entries are in the field for Day 1B, pushing the total entries past 1,000 for the event.

Venturing across the hall from the Signature Room we find more familiar faces including Joe "Worm" Palma, who won two Borgata trophies in September, and Matt Brady who is at the same table.

Also in the Poker Room is three-time trophy winner Howard Wolper, who busts Derrick Perry (Taunton, MA) when his 99 doesn't improve against Wolper's KK.  "I should've known," says Perry who is off to re-enter. "He was only playing big hands, but I was short."

The 1,000+ entries is half way to the number needed to reach the $1 Million Guaranteed in total buy-ins. Re-entry is open today until ~4:15 pm while there are still two flights on Thursday (11 am & 5 pm).

Event 1: Clayton Catches Set vs Darrell

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 4: 100/200

Darrell (standing) Sends a Double-up to Clayton (right)

Rick Clayton (St. Louis, MO) doubles up with a set of Queens through Neville Darrell (Sarasota, FL) who mucks his hand on the river.

Clayton doubles to 45k, while Darrell is left with crumbs and eventually busts.

Players are slowly busting, but quickly re-entering the field. Darrell returns and is now at the same table as 5-time Borgata trophy winner Will Failla (Smithtown, NY).

Event 1: Frankenberger Tangles with Beier at Borgata

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 3:  75/150

Frankenberger (left), puts Beier (right) in the Tank

WPT Player of the Year (Season IX) and 2-time WSOP Bracelet holder Andy Frankenberger (New York, NY) opens the action and gets into a betting war with Matt Beier (Yonkers, NY) who says the betting is as follows:

Frankenberger: 525
Beier: 1,635
Frankeberger: 3,800
Beier: 9,000
Frankeberger: ~20k (all in)

The all-in six bet briefly puts Beier on his heels, but he eventually calls.

Beier: KK
Frankenberger: 99

Frankenberger picks up a diamond draw on the turn, but bricks the river before asking for a re-entry ticket. "You weren't going to fold that were you," asks Frankenberger as heads to the registration line.

"I wasn't sure who he is," says Beier, who is now up to 50k, "but I know I've played with him before."

Level three is winding down and players are heading on a 10 minute break.

Event 1: Early Tweets

Event 1: Siegel Seeking More Chips

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 2: 50/100

Siegel Didn't win the Vouchers, but is Back for Day 1B

One of the twists in this tournament is that players are able to play multiple flights AND if they bag more than one stack take the best stack into Day 2.

Eric Siegel (Melville, NY) banked 84k (17 bb) on Day 1A and is back looking for more. "If you have the time and bankroll why wouldn't you do it," says Siegel, who has a chance to open up his game knowing that he's guaranteed to be playing Day 2.

"It brings in a whole new strategy into play, adds the Borgata regular, "and if you can take advantage of it you should do it."

On the last hand of Day 1A Siegel's table added another twist as all 10 players put there dinner vouchers into the pot. Frank Kroll (Absecon, NJ) was the big winner as he takes the pot and can now take nine friends to dinner.

Nancy Martin
Bill Stradley
Nick Frangos
Steven Rodriguez
Cathy Dever
Nick Frangos
Andy Frankenberger

A reminder that the end of night chip leader earns a $2,700 voucher into the Borgata Fall Poker Open Championship Event. This is the last flight the prize is available as the bonus is NOT being offered for the Flight C & D big stacks.
