Event 1D: Big Stack

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 800/1,600/200 ante

Ricky's Running Good

The field is still split between the Poker and Signature rooms which makes finding the chip leader a challenge.  The biggest we've seen so far belongs to Ricky Crawford (Goldsboro, NC) who is up to 190k.

This level takes the field to the last break of the night.  After a 15 minute break, players will finish Levels 13-16 with things wrapping up at ~2:20 am.

Event 1D: Big Dog Barking

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 11: Blinds 600/1,200/200 ante

Brown Hits Straightest Flush

Catching up with the big stacks, we find Jeremy "Big Dog" Brown (Morristown, NJ) with a healthy 150k.

"I hit a straight flush right before break," says the Borgata trophy holder, "I was going to have to re-enter if I didn't hit the river."

On the last hand before the previous break, Brown and Jack Corning (Syracuse, NY) see a flop of Ax J 8 and all the chips are in the middle for a 160k chip pot.

Corning: AJ (two pairs)
Brown: 9 7 (flush draw, gutshot straight draw)

Turn: 3x

River: 10

Brown hits the Jack-high straight flush to cripple Corning. "I was down to 5k," says Corning, "now I'm up to 18(k)," he says after surviving an all-in.

Brown won his trophy earlier this year in the Borgata Spring Poker Open, but his largest career score was a second place finish in the 2009 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship Event. He earned $454,000 after Olivier Busquet beat him heads up for the title.

After spending time in Arizona, Brown is back on the East Coast and living in New Jersey. Corning is a frequent Borgata series player who has four career cashes here.

Event 1D: Full Field

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: Blinds 500/1,000/100 ante

We caught up with the last two re-entries as they got their final 25k chip stacks; Steven Macchia (Woodridge, NJ) and Joe DiMartino (Ansonia, CT) help set the 1D flight at more than 875 entries, and both are accomplished players.

Macchia has a Borgata trophy from his win in a 2010 Borgata Winter Poker Open event ($24,000), while DiMartino has nearly $200,000 in career tournament earnings including a 13th place finish ($28,000) in this year's Borgata Winter Poker Open's Championship Event.

Once the cage verifies the total we'll get a final count and post official numbers including the prize pool.
The total entries will be close to 2,900.

Event 1D: Going Green

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: Blinds 500/1,000/100 ante

Dealer Juan Racking Green Chips

Players are back from the color-up break which means after three days and four flights there won't be any more green chips in the tournament.

As play resumes, the re-entry line is still 25 players deep and some recognizable faces are in line to fire one last bullet.  Dave Insleberg, Christian Harder and Will Jaffee are hoping their last shot is the silver bullet for a six figure score.

Event 1D: Wind the Clock

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 9: 400/800/75 ante

The last level of the $1,000,000 Guaranteed event continues.  Players still have through the next break to join the party and add to the impressive total which will be just shy of 3,000 entries.

Short stacks have the option to surrender their chips and get a fresh 25k, so it's double-up or bust time for those with less than 10 big blinds.

Event 1D: More Bullets Flying on Twitter

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 8: Blinds 300/600/75 ante

Event 1D: Players Still Arriving

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 7: Blinds 250/500/50 ante

Signature Room

Now that 1C players have bagged and tagged, the Signature Room is half empty.  1D alternates are slowly trickling in to fill the tables.  Registration is open for three more levels and will close at ~10:30 pm.

Event 1A-C: Unofficial Count & Total Entries

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Now that 1C is bagged and tagged here's a look at the official three-flight totals:

Day 1A:  479 entries, 85 Survivors
Day 1B:  633 entries, 126 Survivors
Day 1C:  911 entries, 202 Survivors

Day 1A-C Totals: 2,023 entries, 413 Survivors

Avg Chip Stack: 123k (25 bb) with blinds going to 2,500/5k/500 ante at 12 pm Friday.

Day 1D: 650 entries and counting

Event 1 Total Entries: 2,673+

Event 1D: Fresh Fish

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 5: 150/300/25 ante

(l-r) Mahnken, Fung, Maher & Castelli

With two flights in the Poker Room and now two flights in the Signature Room, there's a lot of chaos at Borgata.  "This is like a Saturday night," says one passerby who can't believe all the action.

1D alternates are grabbing seats as fast as 1C tables are breaking, all while two different clocks are running with different blind levels; the floor supervisors are hustling to keep up.

"You don't have much to write about," jokes Jerry Maher (Warren, NJ) who is at a table with several players who are, not only on their first entry for 1D, but first entry of the four flight tournament.

Maher's a Borgata regular as is Mike Melkersen (New Market, VA), who are at the same table, and both on their first bullets. Anthony Castelli (Brooklyn, NY) and Edmond Mahnken (Brooklyn, NY) are also newbies, while Andy Fung (Queens, NY) is the veteran of the group who busted yesterday.

"I got to like Level 13, but couldn't win those 50/50 hands," says Fung.

So while there's a lot to write about, there's also too much to cover as we all brace for the storm of
entries to end.

Event 1C: Done For The Night

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

End of Level 16: Blinds 2k/4k/400 ante

All players have bagged their chips for the night.

About 125 players made the cut in the Signature Room.  About 75 in the Poker Room for ~200 survivors.

Kiron Chan finished strong, bagging 400,500.  He is the only player over 400k.

These are the only other stacks over 300k (all from the Signature Room):

Michael Pappis - 399,500
Tony Bueti - 394,500
George Alberto - 303,500

The biggest stack bagged in the Poker Room belonged to 'Lucky' Lee Kirsch, who bagged 275k.

Final player count for Day 1C was 911, bring the total for Days 1A, 1B, & 1C to 2,023.

Day two begins at 12 noon Friday!

Event 1C: Four More Hands

 $500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 16: Blinds 2k/4k/400 ante

With ten minutes remaining on the clock, all tables will play four more hands, color up the black 100 chips, then bag up for the night.

 Kiron Chan

As the end approaches, Kiron Chan has emerged with a big stack.  He's up to ~340k.

There are no bonuses for chip leaders at the end of days 1C and 1D like there were for days 1A and 1B.

Event 1D: Registration Still Open (or Open Again)

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Players holding alternate tickets are being seated in flight 1D as quickly as tables open up.

Since all the Day 1C tables will open up shortly after 8pm when they finish for the night, players without alternate tickets (including late bust-outs from 1C) have been told they can sitck around if they still want to get in, you just might.  There's a line of very patient players waiting already.

Once the 1C players have cleared out, that will free up all those tables & dealers for flight 1D.

Event 1D: 5 pm Twitterverse

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 4 : 100/200

Event 1C: Defending Champion

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 15: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

Although last year's Borgata Fall Poker Open Event 1 was a $500 + $60 NLH event, that's where the similarities to this event end.

Last year there were only two starting days; this year there were four (double).

Last year the guarantee was $500,000; this year it was  $1,000,000 (double).

Last year there were 1,431 entries; no final number yet this year, but it is north of 2,500 already.

Last year, Dan Walsh won event 1, taking home $143,114.  This year, who knows?

Dan Walsh, Defending Champion

Event 1D: Inside the Minds of Two Borgata Standouts

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 4: 100/200

Young & Childs

Lee Childs and Jason Young are not only Borgata staples, but the pillars of the Inside the Minds poker training program.  They've hosted multiple classes at Borgata and both arrived here today, separately, in just the nick of time for the 5 pm and final flight.

Childs, who made the 2007 WSOP Main Event final table, is the founder of Inside the Minds and has amassed nearly $3 million in live and on-line tournament earnings. He finished 7th in '07 for more than $700,000 and finished runner-up ($24,000) here in September during the Borgata Poker Open Big Stack event.

Young, not only has a WSOP Bracelet (2008), but is also a Borgata trophy winner. He won more than $100,000 in the opening event of the 2009 Borgata Winter Poker Open as part of his $750,000+ in career live tournament earnings.

No word on when the next training session will be at Borgata.

Event 1C: Big Stacks Building

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 15: Blinds 1,500/3,000/400 ante

George Alberto

One of the big stacks emerging late in Day 1C belongs to George Alberto.  He's up to ~275k.

Hyon Ko

On his left is Hyon Ko, who finished 2nd in last November's opening event.  That event had $1,431 entries and second was good for $85,663.

Hyon was recently all-in, but got no callers.  He's got about 40k.

Event 1D: Alternate Universe

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 3: 75/150

Poker Room Manager Vinnie Alonge Handing out
Red Alternate Tickets to
(l-r) Matteo, Massimo & Keith Crowder

In politics you have red states and blue states, Borgata's version is red alternates and blue alternates.

Another batch of alternate tickets have been handed out and being in the "red" is where you want to be.

"I'm so happy," says Cathy Dever (Ephrata, PA), "I just found out."  Dever busted out of today's earlier flight and tweeted that she was sad about being shutout of the 5 pm flight.  Now that all the blue ticketed alternates have been seated, Borgata tournament officials are making every effort to get those who have red tickets into the field.

Also happy to get their tickets are two travelers from Italy Dinoto Massimo & Fratello Matteo, "we're here on holiday," says Massimo, "and to win the tournament!"

As the 1C flight collapses with no more re-entry, tables are opening up and 1D seats are now available.  There will be another deluge of openings when 1C  bags and tags at ~8 pm.

Event 1C: Break Time Chip Chirps

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 14: Blinds 1,200/2,400/300 ante

Chip counts Tweeted during the last break:

Mark Dube - 120.5k
Brandon Schaefer - 117.6k
Jesse Cohen - 95k
Daniel Joachim - 70k
Ari Engel - 28k
Steve Ryan - 20k
Jose Montes - 14k (has since busted out)

Event 1D: Fresh Faces

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 2: Blinds 50/100

"You can't write this is my second bullet," says Dave Inselberg who is quick to point out that this is his first entry into the 2,000+ entry field.  Inselberg is a rare find as first timers are the minority.

A lot of familiar faces are making their Borgata Fall Poker Open Debut and the list includes:

Dave Inselberg
Jason Young
Lee Childs
John DiBella
Victor Ramdin
Terry Grimes
Britney Billian

This is just a few of the players who are anxious to take their crack at the $1,000,000 Guarantee of total buy-ins.

Event 1C: Back From Last Break

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 13: Blinds 1k/2k/300 ante

Players are back from their last break of the day.  They'll play four levels, then bag up for the night.

Cathy Dever was one of the unfortunate 1C players to missed out on firing another bullet:

Event 1: 1D Underway, Event Sold Out

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 12: Blinds 800/1,600/200 ante

Alternate tickets were distributed to those in line at registration and no more entries will be accepted without a ticket for 1D.

This means that players who bust out of flight 1C will NOT be able to try again in 1D and since re-entry is closed for 1C, there are no more bullets to be fired for 1C players.

They put cards in the air about 5:25 for Flight 1D.

Event 1D: Holding Pattern

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Manager Ray Morales & Dealer Kenny Distributing the Chips

The fourth and final flight is on a slight delay as the poker managers continue to make room for the overflow crowd.

The tournament will get underway momentarily.

Event 1: $1 Million Guarantee Met

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 11: Blinds 600/1,200/200 ante

Monitor showing 2,022 entrants means the Guarantee is in the bag!

Good News:  The $1 Million guarantee on total buy-in has been met as over 2,000 players have registered for this event.

Bad News:  There aren't enough open tables (yet) to field all the Day 1D players.  They're breaking them as fast as they can.  Entire 1C tables are being moved from the Poker Room the the Signature Room so all the available tables in the Poker Room can be used for 1D.

Good News/Bad News:  The line at registration, which is all for 1D, reaches past Wolfgang Puck's.  I'm estimating 70-80 people.  This does not include re-entry for 1C -- they have a separate line.

Event 1: Chip Chirps

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

@golfermarc - 37k
Steve Ryan - 34k

Event 1: Back From Break

 $500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 10: Blinds 500/1,000/100 ante

The green 25 chips have been colored up and removed from play.

Players have returned from their break and re-entry is closed for 1C.  Anyone who busts out now can only register/re-enter in flight 1D, which begins at 5pm.

A couple of players Tweeted their demise before the break:

Event 1: How To Use The Photo Slideshows

Level 9: Blinds 400/800/75 ante

Approaching the break at the end of level 9, which will be the last chance to re-enter 1C.

Last summer, the Borgata Poker Blog began using SmugMug for photo sharing.  Their site is the server for the photo slideshows that appear in the blog.

Flights 1C & 1D slideshow

If you're viewing a slideshow and want get one of the photos or browse the photos at your own pace, you just have to click on any photo.  That will take you to our photo sharing site: http://borgatapoker.smugmug.com/.

Once you're on the site and looking at a photo, you can click the left and right arrows to scroll through the photos.  Using the icons at the bottom, you can email, tweet, or download the current photo.

The slideshows do not work on most mobile devices.  If you want to browse the photos from your mobile device, go to http://borgatapoker.smugmug.com/.  You will see that photos are organized by series (2013 Borgata Fall Poker Open) and then by event.

Event 1: Out and In Again

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 9: Blinds 400/800/75 ante

This is the last level for re-entry in flight 1C.  Flight 1D begins at 5:00pm.

Not sure which option 'Action' Bob Hwang will go for:
A couple of players have decided to skip the 1C re-entry and go for a fresh stack in 1D:

Ari Engel

Ari Engel came to Borgata fresh from his win at River City in St. Louis, where he pocketed $145,125 -- the largest cash of his poker career.  He won an event here during the 2013 Borgata Spring Poker Open for $26,048.

He's busted out of Day 1C, but plans to fire another bullet.  He Tweeted his fans:

Still plenty of time for re-entries in Day 1C!

Event 1: Day 1C Late Registration Cut Off

$500 + $60 Deep Stack No Limit Hold'em (Re-Entry)

Level 6: Blinds 200/400/50 ante

Bad News: Due to the size of the Day 1C field, alternate tickets were passed out and only those with an alternate ticket will be allowed to late register for day 1C.  Those last few entries are now being processed.

Good News: Re-entry is still available for players already in Day 1C and they can re-enter as many times as they like through the break after level 9 (about 4pm).

Better News:  This means the registration line will only be open to players registering for the 5pm Day 1D flight (or other future events).

Unfortunate News:  It appears that the 8pm Green Chip Bounty NLH Tournament (Event 20) will be cancelled because there won't be any tables available for it.

Ryan in the Box

A brief shortage of dealers earlier today meant floorman Ryan had to fill in temporarily.

Level 1: Blinds 25/50

Registration Line

A bit surprising that today's line at registration is not longer.   A few minutes after the event started, I counted only about 60 people in line to register.  The line only extends about half-way down the hall in front of Wolfgang Puck's.

Of course there is plenty of time to register, but there is a separate line for re-entries, who get priority.

Event 1: Third Verse, Same As The First (Two)

Any players eliminated from 1C may re-enter 1C through the break after level 9 (about 4 pm).  They may also enter flight 1D, which begins at 5pm, through the break after level 9 (about 10pm).

Players began with 25,000 chips and all levels are 30 minutes today.

Cards are in the air!

Mike 'Little Man' Sica (Sept. 2013)

One thing that is different about today is that Tab Duchateau announced the passing of Mike 'Little Man' Sica, a legend around here and one of the nicest people I have ever met.  The Signature Room observed a moment of silence before action began.
